Privacy - Google Chrome

Google Put 4GB of AI on Your Computer. You Never Agreed to It.

A researcher found that Google Chrome has been silently downloading a 4GB file called weights.bin to your device without any consent. It contains the AI weights for Gemini Nano. No notification. No popup. No way to stop it unless you dig into Chrome flags.

→ Affects over 1 billion Chrome users on Windows, macOS, and Linux
→ Quietly bundled with a security patch on April 24
→ Google says it powers on-device scam detection, no data sent to the cloud
→ To turn it off: go to chrome://flags, search "Optimization Guide On Device Model", disable it

You gave up 4GB of storage for a feature you never asked for and will probably never notice.

OpenAI - ChatGPT

ChatGPT Has a New Default Model. It Actually Remembers You Now.

OpenAI switched ChatGPT's default model to GPT-5.5 Instant. The big upgrade is memory. ChatGPT can now pull context from your past conversations, saved notes, and connected Gmail to give you answers that feel like a continuation rather than starting from zero every time.

→ Smarter, faster answers on everyday tasks out of the box
→ Memory now connects your past chats, files, and Gmail for continuity
→ Rolling out to Plus and Pro users on web first

The more you use ChatGPT, the more useful it becomes. That is the real shift here.

Anthropic - Compute

Claude Just Partnered With SpaceX. Higher Limits for Claude Code Are Live Now.

Anthropic signed a compute partnership with SpaceX to substantially increase its infrastructure capacity. The immediate effect: higher usage limits for Claude Code and the Claude API. If you have been hitting rate limits while building with Claude, you now have more room.

→ Claude Code rate limits increased starting this week
→ API limits also expanded for developers on paid tiers
→ Part of a wider infrastructure push after Anthropic raised $50B this year

Compute is the real bottleneck right now, not model quality. Every major AI lab is signing deals with anyone who has spare GPUs.

Big Deal - Microsoft x OpenAI

Microsoft and OpenAI Rewrote Their Deal. OpenAI Is No Longer Locked to Azure.

The two companies restructured their $135B partnership. OpenAI can now use any cloud provider, not just Microsoft Azure. Microsoft keeps its license on OpenAI technology until 2032, but it is no longer exclusive. Revenue sharing continues until 2030 under a new capped structure.

→ OpenAI is free to work with Google Cloud, AWS, or anyone else
→ Microsoft license becomes non-exclusive through 2032
→ FT called it a "signal of growing distance" between the two companies

OpenAI is now big enough to negotiate as an equal. It is clearly preparing to operate as a fully independent platform company, not a Microsoft product.

Event Preview - Google I/O 2026

Google I/O Is Next Week. Here Is What to Watch For.

Google I/O 2026 is one week away. After a strong April that brought Gemma 4, Deep Research Max, and the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, the keynote is expected to go even bigger with a full Gemini 4 reveal and the final Android 17 launch.

Gemini 4 with full agentic mode built into Android
Android 17 final release with desktop mode
Google Pixel Laptop rumored to make its debut
→ Project Astra, Workspace AI, and Nest Hub upgrades also expected

Google is walking into I/O with more momentum than it has had in years. Apple handed Siri to Gemini. Microsoft is loosening its grip on OpenAI. Google just has to show up and not mess it up. This one is worth watching live.
