Separately, OpenAI says GPT-5.4 and GPT-5.4 mini will be removed from ChatGPT for signed-in users on August 31, 2026, while remaining available through the API and Codex sessions that use an API key.

OpenAI says an internal version of Astra, its next major model, generated new results for 10 long-standing problems in mathematics and theoretical computer science. The results include new bounds in high-dimensional sphere packing, a construction of non-sofic groups, a disproof of Connes's rigidity conjecture, a superexponential lower bound for multicolor Ramsey numbers, and hardness results for the closest vector problem. Human researchers prepared the work into manuscripts, then Astra formalized each argument into a machine-checkable Lean certificate. OpenAI estimates the search cost across all 10 results at roughly 2,000 dollars at Sol API rates.
